ALIENS & OBJECTS is a series my son and I collaborated on in 1998.
Henry and I were driving in the northern New Mexico desert where we lived at the time...he was three years old, going on four. He was mighty quiet in the back seat, so I asked him what he was doing. Henry said "I'm drawing aliens." I thought "Hmm, I can use that....."
We worked on the series for about a year. Henry would draw an "alien" on a 5x8" card, and then I would paint an "object" on top of his drawing. He was pretty generous about what I was doing to his work.
The series was included in the exhibition "Imaginary Friend," curated by Nayland Blake (1998, Rupert Goldsworthy Gallery, NYC).
